Does My Car Have a Transmission Filter?

Not every automobile has a transmission filter, so you will need to check your owner’s manual to see if yours does. All vehicles have air, fuel, and oil filters; some vehicles have cabin and transmission filters. Benton Road Auto Repair would be happy to inspect your vehicle’s filters and change them if necessary. It’s important to have each filter changed when it needs it to avoid engine performance issues. In the case of the cabin air filter, a clogged and dirty filter can make you sick. Let’s talk more about this below.

Air

The air filter is found in the engine. This filter takes the air that flows in from the outside and purifies it before it makes its way into the combustion chamber. This filter should be changed every 12,000 miles. If you are a driver that does not put a lot of miles on your automobile, make sure to change the air filter annually. A dirty air filter can cause sluggish engine performance and poor fuel economy.

Cabin

As we mentioned above, a dirty cabin filter can make you sick. It will be unable to purify the air of dirt, exhaust, pollens, and other contaminants that can be irritating if you inhale them. Generally, the cabin filter should be changed every 30,000 miles, but this duration varies between vehicles and filter brands. Check your owner’s manual to see the recommendation for your cabin filter changes.

Fuel

The diesel fuel or gasoline in your automobile runs through the fuel filter twice. This is to make absolutely certain that all contaminants and sediment are removed before the fuel makes its way into the combustion chamber. Fuel filters generally last about 30,000 miles or two years. Make sure to change your fuel filter when you reach the first of the two milestones.

Oil

The oil filter purifies the oil after it has run through the engine. The filter needs to purify the oil afterward because it picks up dirt and contaminants from the engine parts. The oil filter is changed during an oil change, so your automobile gets a new oil filter every 3,000 miles. A clogged oil filter can damage your engine severely if it prevents the oil from circulating through it.

Transmission

Finally, the transmission filter gets changed just like the oil filter does. In other words, we change the filter when we change the transmission fluid. Unlike motor oil, the transmission fluid does not need to be changed until you have driven 30,000 miles. It’s important to have it done at this time, however.
