Starter Problems Produce the Following Issues

Your car’s engine will not fire up without a functioning starter motor. The average lifespan of a starter motor is 100,000 miles to 150,000 miles. You may never need to worry about the starter in your automobile, but if you experience any of the problems listed below, the starter motor is going bad. Benton Road Auto Repair can replace your car, truck, or C/SUV’s starter when it needs it.

Strange Sounds

You probably already know that your engine may make clicking sounds if the starter has gone bad. It’s important to understand, however, that some starters go bad without ever making a noise. If you do hear clicking, whining, or squealing when you attempt to start your automobile, bring your vehicle to our shop right away if you do get it started. The starter motor is going bad.

Dead Engine

Unfortunately, if the starter motor is already dead, your engine will be dead. There is no way the engine can start without a functioning starter. A dead engine can often trick the driver into thinking that the problem is either the battery or the alternator. We are going to tell you how to test that next. Keep in mind, however, that a dead engine can also be caused by a faulty starter.

Working Lights

If you cannot get your car, truck, or utility vehicle’s engine started, check to see if the lights are working. If they are, they are being powered by the alternator and the battery. This means that these two auto parts are functioning as they should be. In other words, your vehicle most likely will not start because you have a bad starter in the engine that cannot trigger the initial ignition.

White Smoke

If your engine is dead, it’s important that you accept this and have your vehicle towed to our shop. If you fight with your automobile and try several times to get it to start, you will overheat the starter motor. When this happens, you will see white smoke flowing out from underneath the hood.

Oily Starter

Finally, as an aside, if there is oil all over the starter, it will malfunction and die. The starter can be found in your engine underneath the cylinder block. If the cylinder block is cracked and leaking, this can affect the starter and cause a premature death.
